Important Changes to the Free Version of Varwin Starter
Dear Varwin Users,
Varwin Starter is a free (Academic) version of the Varwin platform, designed to introduce users to the software interface and begin learning how to develop interactive 3D/VR/AR applications for education and business.
For six years, Varwin Starter has been available with a fairly wide range of features, allowing users to utilize the platform almost at the level of a paid license. Now, we are introducing more restrictions on Varwin Starter’s functionality while retaining sufficient capabilities for individual learning in interactive 3D/VR/AR application development—the original purpose of Varwin Starter. These changes will take effect for new users starting July 1, 2025, and we want to inform you in advance.
We value our long-term users, so for them, the changes will come into effect starting October 1, 2025. Until then, you have the opportunity to smoothly transition to the new version of Varwin Starter and adjust your educational process accordingly if it was previously based on Varwin Starter.

- The number of simultaneously editable projects in the new version will be limited to 3.
- Only 1 scene can be worked on at a time.
- The use of Varwin objects (*.vwo) not included in the Starter package will be prohibited in edit mode.
- The use of third-party objects, including those created with the Varwin SDK, will now be available only in the paid version. However, the use of your own 3D models, sounds, and images remains unrestricted.
- "Change History" and "Recovery of Deleted Projects" will now be available only in the paid Varwin Education version.
2. Project Export:
- 3 project exports per day in .vwp format.
- Project export in .vwm format is now only available in the paid Varwin Education version.
3. License Duration:
- New Starter licenses will now be issued for 2 months instead of being unlimited, as before. To renew your free 2-month license, you can use the same email as before, but you will need to complete a short survey.
- All old unlimited Starter licenses issued before July 1, 2025, will be revoked on October 1, 2025.
4. Technical Support:
- Individual support will now be available only to paid users.
5. Other Restrictions:
- Varwin Starter will only work on the latest version of Varwin.
- New free Varwin Starter licenses will start being issued in July 2025 (with the release of version 17.11). Until then, old free Varwin Starter licenses will remain active.
- Starting October 1, 2025, all free Varwin Starter licenses will work only on the latest release version of Varwin. Users with free licenses on older versions will be prompted to update.
- New free licenses will be valid for 2 months from the date of issuance.

How to Renew Your Varwin Starter License?
Starting July 1, 2025, you will need to obtain a Starter license key to continue using the free version of the platform. To renew your Starter license, go to link in the platform and answer a few questions. We will issue you a Varwin Starter license valid for 2 months.

Why do I need to renew Starter licenses?
— We've indeed updated the terms of use for Varwin Starter, and we understand this may cause inconvenience. Renewing the license every 2 months is due to technical and legal requirements, as well as database optimization, which helps us ensure security and stability for all 30,000 users. If you need unrestricted access with all features, consider purchasing a Varwin Education license: https://varwin.com/en/education/buy-license/.
Is technical support no longer available for free users?
— As Varwin’s popularity grows, with more paid and free users, priority support will be given to paid license holders. However, you can still email us at edu@varwin.com or upgrade to Varwin Education: https://varwin.com/en/education/buy-license/.
How to structure education if projects can’t be exported?
— The Starter Academic License includes 3 daily exports in .vwp format — this is sufficient for developing and working with small educational projects. After learning Varwin’s core functionality and platform modules, there’s typically no need to store or export such basic projects as they serve primarily as learning exercises. If you require unlimited project exports, you can always upgrade to Varwin Education: https://varwin.com/en/education/buy-license/.
Can I still use third-party assets (3D models, images, videos, audio)?
— Yes, You can import and use third-party content in Varwin Starter without restrictions.
Why impose limits on objects and scenes?
— These limits are sufficient for basic educational programs.
Are there restrictions on importing projects?
— No. You can import unlimited projects for viewing, even those with paid content. However, only 3 projects can be edited, and they must use objects available in the academic version of Varwin.
